Dr. Ruben Pina Ph. D.
Dr. Ruben Pina is a Licensed Psychologist, born and raised in Rio Grande Valley. He earned his Master’s Degree in Community Counseling from St. Mary’s University and acquired his Doctoral Degree at Walden University. Dr. Pina has extensive clinical experience, including 12 years, as a Licensed Professional Counselor and 6-years clinical experience as a Licensed Psychologist. Dr. Pina is also bilingual and biliteral in order to enhance his clinical and professional services. Dr. Pina’s internship experience was obtained from Doctors Hospital at Renaissance Behavioral Center and Rehabilitation Center. He has significant clinical experience with psychological and neurological testing and psychotherapy. Dr. Pina is currently conducting full psychological evaluations for a variety of demographic groups including Children, Adolescents, Adults, Disability, Immigration, Law Enforcement and Full Battery Psychological Evaluations. His professional interests and experience include, but not limited to, the treatment of childhood disorders, including Trauma, ADHD, Behavioral Disorders, Anxiety, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Licensed Professional Counselor
Edward Acosta MEd
Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor Extensively experienced, bilingual/bi-literate licensed professional counselor with over twenty-five years of professional clinical experience as a licensed professional counselor. I am currently in private practice in Mission, Texas and have worked with medical and law enforcement agencies in the Rio Grande Valley for the past fifteen years. My clinical caseload consists primarily of children and adolescents (some adults) with emotional and behavioral difficulties, associated with a variety of psychiatric conditions and environmental factors. I have extensive experience in assessing and treating individuals and families with difficult and sensitive issues including, but not limited to, divorce and custody, sexual abuse victimization, conduct and defiant disorders, substance abuse, eating disorders, mood disorders etc. I am fully licensed and bonded in the state of Texas. I have also testified as a professional and expert witness in over one hundred civil and criminal court proceedings including custody evaluations, relocation opinions, divorce proceedings and parental termination hearings. I also have vast experience with children experiencing academic and conduct issues at school, gang affiliation, substance abuse, sexuality issues, etc. I have also completed over sixty five court appointed custody evaluations and adoption studies in Hidalgo Count, Texas since 2013. Forensic experience in custody evaluations and sexual abuse allegations and expert testimony.
LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS
Ms. Sylvia Hernandez MS, LPC-CART (Certified Anger Resolution Therapist) I am a professional counselor licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. I am currently self-employed in private practice as an independent contractor with Piña and Acosta Psychological Associates. My counseling services address concerns or issues including, but not limited to: trauma, grief, anxiety disorders, depression, stress and anger management, child behavioral issues, life transitions, problems of daily living and relational issues.

LICENSED PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATES

Priscilla G. Rodriquez is currently a Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA). She is a graduate from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology. She completed her internship at Pina Psychological Associates where she gained experience and training to assess child and youth population. She is currently being supervised by Dr. Ruben Pina.
Ms. Nenci Garcia MS, LPC, LCDC is a vastly experienced clinician that specializes in the community counseling and has treated children, adolescents, and adults. She is also a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist. Ms. Garcia is a certified Trauma Cognitive Behavioral Therapist.
Pearl Cano was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. She has obtained a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from The University of Texas-Pan American and a Master of Science in psychology from the University of Phoenix. She is currently pursuing a PSYD in Clinical Psychology from Capella University. Pearl is a Predoctoral Intern and Doctoral
Candidate. Her aspirations are to
become a Licensed Psychological
Associate in the journey of later
becoming a Licensed sychologist to help the Rio Grande Valley
Community because the people have a very special place in her heart.
Ms. Violeta Diaz M.ED. LPC is a vastly experienced clinician with many years’ experience as a school counselor and a private practice clinician. Her experience in public schools has fully prepared her with the clinical abilities to assist young children, families, and adults in improving in life quality, behavior, and emotional improvement. Ms. Diaz is primarily a play therapist but also practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Ms. Diaz is a certified Trauma Cognitive Behavioral Therapist.
Veronica Salinas is currently a Pre-Doctoral intern. She received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Texas-Pan American in 2013. She also received her Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Phoenix in 2016. Ms. Salinas is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Capella University. Her goals are to become a licensed psychological associate and eventually a licensed psychologist. She enjoys working in the Rio Grande Valley as this is where she grew up. She would love to help increase access to mental health care in this area.
Ms. Janie Ruiz MS, LPC is an experienced clinician whose professional experience comes from being a counselor for several years. As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, Ms. Ruiz treats school age children and adults with all types of issues, such as stress, depression and anxiety.
Maria Esmeralda Garza Ph. D.
Dr. Garza was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Garza attended the University of Texas-Pan American and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. She went on to complete her Ph.D. Degree with Walden University in Clinical Psychology. As a former educator, she knows the challenges students and teachers face daily with their everyday instructional challenges. Her experience helps with assisting in with the appropriate evaluations as she is familiar with the difficulties that students experience in school and with state testing. Currently, Dr. Garza’s position includes administering Psychological Assessments, gathering information for intakes, and providing individual recommendations for a vast variety of patients. Her experience includes administering assessments in neuropsychological testing, psychological testing, and psychotherapy.
Administrative Staff
Alma Reyes is the friendly face you see at the front desk. She has recently completed her year with us here at Pina & Acosta Psychological Services. Alma has over 3 years experience as a receptionist and enjoys helping patients.
Blanca Pina is our billing specialist who has been with us for almost one year. She makes sure that our patients get the proper information from their insurance companies.
Brianna Vela, NRCCS is our office manager and has been with us for 2 years. She just recently completed her associates of applied science in coding & revenue cycle management.
